The S900001 thermocouple is manufactured to exact OEM specifications for sensitivity, thermal response, and electrical characteristics, ensuring reliable flame detection under varying combustion conditions. Accurate and dependable flame sensing is a cornerstone of boiler safety: without it, the boiler cannot confirm that the gas being supplied has been ignited, which may lead to unsafe conditions if unburned gas is allowed to flow. A properly functioning thermocouple works in concert with other safety interlocks — such as gas valves, flame detectors, and control PCBs — to provide a layered safety envelope that protects both the appliance and the occupants of the building.
Over time, thermocouples can deteriorate due to combustion exposure, soot build-up, oxidation, or mechanical vibration, which can reduce their ability to generate a consistent voltage signal even when a flame is present. Symptoms of a failing thermocouple include persistent ignition failures, frequent boiler lockouts, or the boiler shutting down soon after firing because the control system mistakenly believes the flame has gone out. Replacing a worn or degraded thermocouple with this genuine OEM unit restores dependable flame detection, improves ignition reliability, and enhances overall safety. Installation should always be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer, who will ensure correct positioning, secure connections, and compliance with safety and performance standards, helping the boiler respond correctly to flame conditions throughout its operating range.
