The 95606921 is the genuine Heatrae Sadia 3kW element plate assembly fitted to 10 and 15 litre electric water heaters built from 2001 onwards, across the Multipoint, Heatstore and Aqualine ranges. It is the post-2001 assembly, and it is not interchangeable with the plate used on earlier units.
What it does
On a small electric water heater the element and its mounting plate are supplied as one assembly. The plate seals the opening in the vessel and carries the heating element, its terminals and the thermostat pocket. Because the element is not separable from the plate on these units, a failed element means replacing the assembly rather than the element alone.
Symptoms of a failed element plate
- No hot water at all, with the element reading open circuit
- Water heating far more slowly than it should, or never reaching temperature
- Repeated tripping of the RCD or the thermal cut-out
- Weeping or corrosion around the plate seal
- Heavy scaling on the element in a hard water area
Compatible models
Fits Heatrae Sadia Multipoint 10 and Multipoint 10 XV; Heatstore 10/15 HS and 10/15 XV; Heatstore HS30, HS50U, HSU 30 and HSU 50; and the Aqualine HSM 10 and HSM 15 and AL073, AL103, AL153 and AL154.5 water heaters. This is the later plate - suppliers date it variously from 1999 or 2001, so check the part number on your existing plate rather than working from the year. Note this is a WATER HEATER part: it does not fit Amptec or Electromax electric boilers, which use a different element arrangement.
Installation
Isolate the appliance electrically and drain the vessel before removing the plate. Fit a new gasket with the assembly - the old one will not reseal. Where the appliance is an unvented water heater, work on the pressure system requires a G3 qualified operative under Building Regulations Part G. Electrical connection should be made by a qualified electrician.
