The Saunier Duval 0020195525 is a genuine combined ignition and ionisation sensing electrode, designed for use across a wide range of Saunier Duval condensing boilers, including the Micra, Thema Condens, Themafast Condens, Thesi Condensing, and Spazio ranges. This single electrode handles both functions in the combustion cycle - generating the high-voltage spark that lights the burner and monitoring the ionisation signal that confirms a stable flame is present. Both roles are safety-critical and must be performed reliably every time the boiler fires.
When the boiler receives a heat or hot water demand, the ignition module energises the electrode, which produces a spark across the gap between its tip and the burner body. This spark ignites the gas and air mixture. Once the flame is established, the electrode passes a minute ionisation current back through the flame to the ignition module, which uses this signal to verify that combustion has been safely established. If the signal is absent or falls below the threshold the module expects, the gas valve closes immediately, and the boiler locks out - preventing unlit gas from continuing to flow. This is a fundamental safety mechanism, and the electrode is at the centre of it.
A combined electrode that has worn, cracked, or accumulated carbon deposits on its tip is one of the most common causes of ignition-related fault codes and lockouts on Saunier Duval condensing boilers.
