Your Options for Heating Your Home
So, if you're buying an Air Souce Heat Pump cylinder for your domestic hot water, you still need to think about how you're going to heat your rooms. Here are your main options:
A gas boiler is still the most common choice in the UK. it heats your radiators and keeps your rooms warm. If you already have one, it can carry on doing exactly that while your new ASHP cylnders handles the hot water separately.
A heat pump heating system uses the same outside unit to warm your home through radiators or underfloor heating. It's the greener option and can be very efficient but it's a separate system to ASHP cylinder, not the same thing.
A split system (sometimes called a mini split) blows warm air directly into your rooms through wall or ceiling units. These are great for heating and can cool in the summer too. One thing to note is that they don't product the hot water, so you'd still need the air source heat pump cylinder for that.
Electric panel heaters are simple wired heaters that warm one room at a time. No boiler, or pipework necessary. They are easy to install and a good option if you just need straightforward room heating.
Infrared panels work a little differently. They warm people and objects rather than the air itself. They're slim, wall-mounted, and particularly good in rooms that you don't use all day. They are also a very eco-friendly solution with multiple different types of panels and set-ups you will be sure to find exactly what you need.
The Short Version
Your ASHP cylinder sorts the domestic hot water. Your heating system sorts the rooms. The two need to work independantly, and choosing one doesn't decide the other.
