The diverter valve is the component within a combi boiler responsible for switching between space heating and domestic hot water modes, directing the flow of heated water to either the central heating circuit or the hot water plate heat exchanger. A failing diverter valve spring typically causes the boiler to produce hot water but no central heating, central heating but no hot water, or intermittent switching between the two.
