Electric combi boilers are not always the same as gas combi boilers, in that they may not produce the hot water instantaneously, but may instead contain a cylinder so they can store a certain amount of hot water for instant use as required.
Although it may seem preferable to always produce the hot water instantaneously, if the outlets (taps, shower etc) are too far from the boiler, there will be considerable heat loss in the pipes and therefore you will not get the right combination of heat / pressure you would otherwise expect. So in anything other than a small property, an electric combi boiler will store a certain amount of hot water.
