Indirect Cylinders are a type of Unvented Water Heater wihtout the express ability to internally heat water. Therefore, it relies on an external source of heat. In other words, this means that the indirect unit does not provide a constant source of heat to a storage of water. Instead, it bolsters your system through allowing additional quantities of stored hot water to be held, and by 'indirectly' propping up the temperature of the water through an external coil, that keeps the water in ready and usable state as it travels through your hot water circuit.
Picture the flow of water, from a hot water heating source, such as a combi-boiler or gas boiler. This unit then transports the water, at this temperature, throughout the pipes to the house. Along these pipes, the water could become cold, changing temperature can cause pressure fluctuation, and distance can reduce the overall quality of water output. The inclusion of an indirect cylinder allows for larger quantities of hot water to be held. The element included within an indirect cylinder merely heats the water passing through it, as this water is dispatched acorss the house. It's like a back-up that takes the demand away from your main unit, bolstering the effectiveness of both across the water usage of the house. Having a tanker like this reduces the overall amount of tank emptying and filling, thus reduces the electrical / fuel impact that it would have taken to fully re-heat an empty tank to 0. the Indirect Cylinder is like a scorching hot tunnel - as water flows through the cylinder ensures that it is as intended - at a temperature and pressure expected - before allowing this water to pass on through the pipework.
At Electrical Deals Direct, we have a host of Indirect Cylinders available to our customers, but after reading through the above you may now understand the need for a different type of water heater.
