The Viessmann 7828718 is a genuine ignition and ionisation electrode block designed for use in Viessmann WB1B boiler models. This combined assembly performs two critical roles within the boiler’s combustion process: initiating ignition and continuously monitoring flame presence to ensure safe operation.
During a call for heat or hot water, the boiler’s control system energises the ignition electrode, generating a high-voltage spark that ignites the gas-air mixture at the burner. Once combustion is established, the ionisation electrode detects the presence and stability of the flame by measuring a small electrical current passing through it. This signal is fed back to the control unit, confirming safe ignition.
If the flame is not detected or becomes unstable, the system immediately shuts off the gas supply and initiates a lockout condition. This safety mechanism prevents unburnt gas from accumulating within the appliance, making the electrode block a vital component in the boiler’s safety circuit.
As a combined unit, the ignition and ionisation electrodes are precisely positioned within a single block to ensure accurate spark gap and reliable flame sensing.
