jetbox-blue Lately, more and more modern hand dryers are launched that have a blue led light on the underside which illuminates when the dryer is being used.

Dryers that have this feature include the JETBOX Eco, certain dryers from Biodrier, Handy Dryers, and several others.

So the obvious question that is frequently asked is ‘what is it there for?’ Some people wonder if it’s an anti-bacterial type of UV light, maybe a light to indicate to you that the motor is running (if the noise wasn’t enough to let you know this!) or something to add to the ‘coolness’ of what could be considered to be a pretty mundane item.

Well, it’s none of those things at all really, although I suppose you could argue that having a blue led light does add a bit of funkiness to a dryer.  (However, as modern hand dryers are a passion of ours, we are already in a state of excitement when we’re discussing or using them, so we don’t believe added bling is required) blue-light

The answer to the question is pretty straightforward really: the blue light is there to show you where the drying zone is. It’s as simple as that. The optimum place to rub your damp hands together.

I think it’s fair to say that most of us know the best place to dry your hands would be directly beneath a fast jet of air coming from underneath a hand dryer, but just in case anyone was a little unclear, the blue led will guide you there.

We’ve also seen these blue lights in ‘hands in’ and ‘hands through’ type modern hand dryers but these surely have to be for effect, as if you don’t know where to put your hands when using one of these, you probably couldn’t operate the taps either.

So there it is – a simple answer to a simple question.
