The Hyco Powerflow range has always offered good quality products at the right price, and there is a great demand for storage-type water heaters for domestic and light commercial use that can be wall mounted, rather than a floor standing cylinder.
So it is no surprise that for many years, the Hyco Powerflow range has been a top seller.
However, they have now brought out a new range with some great features and superb efficiency. These are the new Powerflow Smart water heaters.
This range has also been cosmetically changed to a more modern contemporary appearance.
So, technically and performance-wise, how do these new Powerflows differ from the original range?
- The reason for adding the word ‘Smart’ is to indicate that, like some other recently introduced water heaters by other manufacturers, these units can monitor and learn usage patterns and adjust heating cycles to suit demand. There is a growing need for this feature to prepare for ever changing new legislation and regulations regarding efficiency of all types of products, with heating products being top of the list. This of course means they’re cheaper to run, so a good thing!
- There used to be 3 sizes in the range before, and now there are 4. (30L, 50L, 80L & 100L) The original 90L unit has been replaced with an 80L and 100L version, both 3kw. The 1kw versions of these larger ones have been dropped.
- There is now a digital display on the front of each unit showing the current temperature of the water, and allowing more accurate temperature control/selection.
- The shape of the water heater has changed to a slim cylinder format rather than the original wider rectangular shape. This makes it narrower, and a little taller for the 80L & 100L models, but shorter for the 30L & 50L versions.
- There are now 3 operating modes: Standard, Eco and Smart, whereas before there was no choice, just standard on/off mode. The ‘Eco’ feature is a quick way to drop the temperature down to 50 degrees.
- As mentioned above, the efficiency is far better, so improved Erp ratings.
As with the previous range, these water heaters still feature the glass lined stainless steel tank, the replaceable magnesium anode, high density foam insulation and of course the expansion vessels & unvented installation kits are included.
At the time of publishing this article, the 80L and 100L versions are readily available, with the 30L and 50L versions on the way. Some models will also be available later with a 1kw rather than the 3kw standard element.
So, there you have it. The new Hyco Powerflow Smart water heaters, certainly set to be a winning, popular product.
