What Are Vented Taps?
Vented Taps can be found across the country, whilst we here at Electrical Deals Direct largely deal in Unvented units, Vented tap options and water heaters are commonly found up and down the country, and can be used to offer safe water heating technology across the country. If you're unsure about whether you should be using an unvented or a vented system of water, hopefully, this article helps you to understand what the differences are.
What Are Vented Taps?
Vented taps are plumbing fixtures that are designed to allow air to flow into the water system. They are typically found in older homes or areas with low water pressure. Vented taps work by allowing air to enter the water system through a small hole or vent in the tap. The purpose of a vented tap is to prevent airlocks in the plumbing system. Airlocks can occur when water is flowing through the pipes and encounters a pocket of air, which can cause the water to stop flowing. Vented taps prevent airlocks by allowing air to enter the system, which helps to maintain the water pressure. Vented taps are typically found in low-pressure water systems, such as those with gravity-fed water tanks or those supplied by wells. In modern plumbing systems, vented taps are less common, as they have been replaced by more efficient pressure-reducing valves and other devices that regulate water pressure.
How Does A Vented Tap Work?
A vented tap helps to regulate water pressure by allowing air to enter the water supply line, which can prevent pressure fluctuations and surges that can damage pipes and appliances. You may notice an occasional drip from your tap should this occur, but that's not to worry about, it in fact highlights the venting performing its purpose and keeping the pressure from building up in the internal pipe flow. By allowing air to enter the supply line, a vented tap helps to equalize the pressure and prevent sudden surges or drops in water pressure. In addition, a vented tap can also help to prevent backflow, which is the unwanted flow of water from a contaminated source back into the clean water supply. Backflow can occur when there is a sudden drop in water pressure, which can cause contaminated water to be drawn back into the supply line. By regulating pressure and preventing sudden drops, a vented tap can help to prevent backflow and ensure that the water supply remains safe and clean.
