Do you have Radiators or Underfloor Heating?

What type of central heating do you have?

There are specialist boilers for either radiators, or underfloor heating systems.

The difference between them is that underfloor heating systems run at lower temperatures than radiators, because their ‘surface area’ becomes the whole floor area, rather than just the radiator area.

These boilers are called ‘flow’ boilers, because the water is heated up and then pumped through the radiators or underfloor pipes, and then through the boiler again so that the temperature is maintained. This water is being pumped round and round in the closed circuit of the heating system.

Often (although not always) they are long and thin, and are installed vertically. In addition to the boiler itself, you will also need a pump, and expansion vessel etc, unless they are supplied as a system boiler.

Of course, we are talking about ‘wet’ underfloor heating here, (i.e. pipework laid under the floor which carries hot water and heats up the floor) rather than an electrical mat.
