For a flat or a small property off the gas grid — or anywhere a flue simply is not possible — the ThermoSphere Flex gives you central heating and instant hot water from one wall-mounted box, with no gas, no flue, and no cylinder.
It is pre-wired and pre-plumbed, with the pump and a 5 litre expansion vessel built in, and measures just 585 x 380 x 235mm, so it fits in a kitchen wall cupboard space.
Heating output is digitally adjustable from 4kW to 14kW, and hot water output separately from 10kW to 14kW. Set the heating to the calculated heat loss of the property and the hot water to suit the outlets. It runs radiators, wet underfloor heating, and skirting heating, at flow temperatures from 30°C to 80°C.
An electric combi heats water as it flows, so the flow rate is the honest limit. The Flex delivers around 6 litres per minute at 14kW with a 30°C temperature rise. That suits a single shower or basins well, but it is not designed for filling a bath. Set hot water to at least 12kW where there is a shower; 10kW is enough for basins only. ThermoSphere recommend a 5 l/min flow restrictor, which is in the installation kit.
At 14kW on a single-phase supply, the Flex needs a 63A MCB and 10mm² cable. Before ordering, have an electrician confirm the incoming supply and consumer unit can take that load alongside everything else in the property. It is the one question that decides whether an electric combi is right for the job.
A digital timer and thermostat for heating and hot water are built in, with volt-free terminals for an external programmer or room thermostat. The standard warranty is 5 years, extended to 7 years when it is fitted with the ThermoSphere installation kit and registered online within 30 days of commissioning.
Not sure the supply will take it, or whether a combi or a system boiler and cylinder is the better fit? Call our team on 01934 253600.
