Our Expert's Opinion
"The largest in the V2 range, for rooms of around 20m². Still only 8.7A, so it runs on a standard fused spur."ThermoSphere V2 2000W Oil Filled Electric Radiator
Where there is no gas, or a wet system is not worth extending, a wall-mounted oil filled radiator is one of the simplest ways to heat a room properly. The ThermoSphere V2 2000W (code TSR-2000-A) heats a well-insulated room of up to 20m², runs on a standard 230V supply, and draws just 8.7A.
Why oil filled rather than a panel heater
The element heats a sealed thermal fluid inside die-cast aluminium fins. That fluid holds its heat, so the radiator keeps giving out gentle, even warmth after the element switches off, rather than cycling hot and cold like a basic convector. Combined with an accurate electronic thermostat, that means fewer swings in room temperature and less wasted energy.
Controls built in
Everything is on the unit, under a hinged cover on the right-hand side — no separate programmer to fit. You get an LCD electronic thermostat (5°C to 30°C), a 7-day programme in 30-minute steps, open window detection that cuts the heat when the temperature drops sharply, adaptive pre-heat so the room is up to temperature at the time you set, a boost timer, frost protection, and an energy monitor showing recent use in kWh.
Sizing and installation
The V2 range runs from 500W to 2000W, all 590mm high and 95mm deep, so a run of rooms can be fitted at a matching height. This 2000W model is 1075mm wide with 12 fins and weighs 24.6kg. Rooms with poor insulation, large windows, or high ceilings need more output than the area alone suggests — step up a size if in doubt. It is supplied with a 1.5m white cable for a hard-wired connection, which should be made by a qualified electrician.
