Investment in a new hand dryer is an important decision, and often it is made because the ongoing costs of paper towels is prohibitive. However, often the warranty offered with each hand dryer is not taken into consideration, yet this can make a huge difference to the whole-of–life costs of the hand dryer.
For example, if your hand dryer breaks down a few months after your warranty runs out, and you need to return it to the manufacturer, then you will find yourself having to pay for an alarming amount of things:
- An electrician to take it off the wall,
- Postage, packaging and insurance to send it off
- The cost of paper towels to be used whilst the hand dryer is being repaired
- The cost of the repair itself
- The electrician to reinstall it once it is returned.
In some cases, it is actually cheaper to just buy another and throw the broken one away! So, the length and type of warranty is extremely important to understand. We also believe that a long and full warranty is the best sign of confidence that a manufacturer can have in the quality of their products.
We have pulled the hand dryer warranty information together from the leading suppliers of hand dryers in the UK, at the ‘quality’ end of the market. You will find that if you are paying much less than £200 for a hand dryer, it will have a limited warranty (this is a matter of basic economics for the manufacturer – they would lose money if they offered any substantial warranty). The only real exception to this is Biodrier, whose impressive warranty applies to the entire range, including the Eco and Biolite models, both of which you can pick up for less than £200 at the time of writing.
In alphabetical order, the dryer manufacturers we are considering are:
- Dyson – the hands-in and the hands-under ranges
- Biodrier – the entire range
- Mitsubishi Electric – the Jet Towel
- Excel Dryers – the Xlerator hand dryer
- Warner Howard – we have concentrated on the Airforce range
- Veltia – the Hands-in range
Of course, if you are leasing or renting hand dryers, this doesn’t apply, as servicing and repair costs will almost certainly be included in your monthly charge.
So, here’s the table for comparison purposes:
*Additional years may be purchased separately
We found this interesting because we had not directly compared them before: clearly Biodrier comes out on top with by far the best warranty, whilst there are several who do not provide an on-site service at all.
