Our Expert's Opinion
"Built for heat pumps, with a large coil, twin immersions and a secondary return. Unlike the rest of the Essential range it uses a supplied external expansion vessel, so allow wall space for it."Heatrae Sadia Megaflo Essential 300 Litre Air Source Heat Pump Unvented Cylinder
The Megaflo Essential ASHP cylinder is designed for residential air source heat pumps, including Baxi models. This 300 litre model stores 287 litres of mains-pressure hot water in a duplex stainless steel tank with 60mm of polyurethane foam insulation, and has two 3kW immersion heaters for boost.
Why a heat pump cylinder?
A heat pump runs at lower flow temperatures than a boiler, so it needs a much larger coil to heat the water in a sensible time. This cylinder's coil has a surface area of 3 m², against 0.51 m² on the Megaflo Essential Indirect. It also has a secondary return connection for a hot water loop.
